RIDGID 3 in 1 Belt Sander

Initial Research

Problem

During an interview at Remote Vans, I saw a Makita belt sander placed upside-down on 2x4s making the tool more versatile. Research revealed high views on DIY jig videos. Inspired, I designed a multi-position belt sander eliminating the need for a jig.

Design Goals

  • Design a multi-purpose tool that takes the place of 2 or more tools

  • Make it affordable so it can be used by consumers to prosumers

  • Have it match the design motifs of the selected brand (RIDGID)

  • Ensure the tool can be used safely with a low risk of harm

  • Ergonomic and easy to use
