DAAP Build Lab Co-op
Other than the basic responsibilities of maintaining the shop and ensuring the safety of the students using it, the remaining time was used for individual research. I used the time to practice my making skills by building play structures for my son and taking Classes to build my skills in 3d modeling and rapid prototyping using a 3d printer. Below is some of my work.
Fun for my son
Recirculating Water Table
Got idea from son playing with dog's water bowl. Made collapsible water table to avoid mess. Used wood, bought plastic bins and plumbing parts online. Planning improved version for senior capstone with focus on edutainment.
Tricera Slide
As my son grew older, I created an indoor playset with a geology theme, inspired by dinosaurs, to enjoy during winter months. The design featured a triceratops fossil emerging from rock, incorporating geological terms for educational value.
Blender Class
I noticed the rendering/ organic modeling potential of Blender early on wanting to add it to my list of skills. I paid for a full course of online classes that I have been working on throughout the semester. In total I have put in close to 60 hours of practice learning the software
Modeling
Node Editing
Animation
UV Editing
3D Printing
Planter Coasters
Inspired by forgecoreco on Instagram, my wife requested a desk plant substitute due to low light. I modified the design for better attachment and removable articulated leaves to be used as coasters.
Printer Enclosure
Printer enclosures help improve 3d prints by keeping out drafts keeping the print at a steady temperature to prevent warping. So, as a way to test out my new printer I designed a custom enclosure combining 3d printed parts with sheet metal and acrylic sheets.
